Cat Eye Gel Polish: The Magnetic Effect That Conquered Instagram
Cat eye gel polish uses a magnet to align tiny metal particles in the gel into a thin glowing line that looks like a cat eye or a polished gemstone. What was a "going-out look" last year has become one of the most-booked everyday manicures in 2026. At Zennail Studio in Osijek we do it almost every day of the week.
The shorter the nail, the more dramatic the cat eye looks — the entire shimmering line stays concentrated on a small area.
How is it made?
A special magnetic gel contains tiny metal particles. After application, we hold a magnet (often a flat or diagonal one) near the nail and the particles align into a thin shining line. Cure under UV/LED light and the effect is locked in. The whole process takes only slightly longer than a standard gel manicure.
The most-requested tones for 2026
- Champagne / warm gold — the most universal, pairs with any jewelry
- Smoky taupe — a matte-leaning base with subtle shine, "quiet elegance"
- Burgundy / wine — for autumn and special occasions
- Forest green / emerald — gemstone-like, highly photogenic

Velvet cat eye — the soft, dispersed version
The latest evolution. The magnet is held so the particles disperse rather than line up, creating a soft velvety effect instead of a sharp stripe. Ideal for bridal and autumn–winter manicures.
How long does it last?
Cat eye gel lasts as long as a regular gel — 3–4 weeks. The sheen only softens in the last week as the pigment responds to daily wear.
Which nail shape works best?
Short almond and squoval. Cat eye needs a flat, smooth surface so the shine reads as one continuous line. Very short nails amplify the gemstone feel.
At Zennail Studio we keep different magnets (diagonal, double, "moonstone") for different effects — just tell us at booking what look you want.
Frequently asked questions
Can I do cat eye over regular nail polish?
No. The effect is only possible with the specific magnetic gel that cures under a lamp.
Will the shine fade after a few days?
No. The shine is locked in by curing — it looks the same tomorrow and three weeks from now.
Does cat eye work for a daytime outfit?
Absolutely. Smoky taupe and champagne tones are discreet and look elegant for office wear and dinners alike.
